Phase 3 of the 4 As: Align for Accountability (The InnerCircle)
In previous posts, we have taken a quick look at
1. Phase 1 Awaken Self-Awareness
2. Phase 2 Anchor with Authenticity
Once you can lead yourself and have a stake in the ground on your valuesyou transition to Align for Accountability.
Alignment is where respect and valuing others becomeoperational. It is the phase of leading in relationships and teams where you create a common purpose that leaves no team member behind. I have referenced
some of John Maxwell’s Laws that apply here with a connection to this phase of the 4As.
The Law of the Inner Circle: A leader’s potential is determined by those closest to them. You must align stakeholders and team members around processes that foster a common culture.
The Law of Connection: Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand. Aligning for accountability requires "being there"—emotionally present and compassionate—to create psychological safety where everyone can be their authentic selves. Compassion and Accountability are not opposing forces. Great leaders do both.
The Law of Buy-In: People follow the leader first, then the vision. Once the team trusts that
you "have their back," they are prepared to align with your aspirational goals.
